Conjecture was already rapidly spreading through broadband wires like wild-fire when Alan ‘Reni’ Wren finally spoke out. In a recent text disclosure to NME, the legendary drummer has responded to reports that The Stone Roses are about to reunite for two special gigs in Manchester next year.

“Not before 9T will I wear the hat 4 the Roses again,” was his rather quipped retort. Nevertheless, it has done little to stop the rumour mill from spilling into frenzied speculation. British fans are already awaiting a mystery-laden press conference this Tuesday, October 18th, which is thought to mark the official announcement of The Stone Roses reunion.

Over the past year, the remaining band members, Ian Brown, John Squire and Gary ‘Mani’ Mountfield, have also quashed any hopes of a reformation, with Squire referring to the idea as “tragic”. However, a new book about the The Stone Roses – written by Rolling Stones biographer Simon Spence – has been authorised by all four musicians and is set to be published in autumn 2012.
