As is so often the case, a worldwide megastar is often misunderstood by inquisitive observers. Nowhere is this more true than in the case of Adele. The 23-year-old singer from North London reckons that her American fans mistake her as being posh.

“They think I have a very British accent, as in: “Do you know the Queen?” she recently claimed. “I just laugh at them. In England I am thought of as common as muck.”

Adele is currently the world’s biggest-selling recording act, thanks to her latest album 21 totalling ten million sales worldwide to date (and counting). Her first album 19 has also been given a significant boost since the start of the year. Despite these staggering figures, Adele recently revealed to TV chat show host  Jonathan Ross that’d she’d rather hang out with her girlfriends back home than do the rounds at award shows in America. “I am pretty oblivious to everything,” she told him. “I’m not very in touch with the fame side of things. It doesn’t interest me at all.”

In other news, Adele has expressed an interest in working with Mumford & Sons. Regrettably, she has also expressed her fascination with Justin Bieber.

Well, you can take the girl out of Croydon…
