“We plan on spending the rest of the day jumping up and down with our hands in the air.”

That was Ian Brown’s response to news that 220,000 tickets for The Stone Roses’ comeback gigs sold out in just over an hour. Demand for tickets were so strong this morning that a third date was hastily added after the first two sold out in just 14 minutes. The gigs will take place on June 29th, 30th and July 1st, 2012.

According to the band’s Twitter account, the three shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park are the “fastest selling rock gigs in UK history.” However, Brown also reiterated this morning. via press release, that he would not be deserting his solo career.

“I hope everybody is happy to hear of the reunification of the Roses. This doesn’t mean there won’t be more solo stuff in the future. Thanks – 1 love”

The Stone Roses are expected to announce details of further gigs around Europe, including dates in Ireland and Scotland.
